Flexible and transparent gold investment options are likely to remain popular alongside physical buying on this Akshaya Tritiya, to be celebrated on Sunday, as investors show a clear shift towards modern alternatives to the yellow metal, say analysts.
With Akshaya Tritiya traditionally considered an auspicious occasion for gold purchases, analysts said investor participation is gradually evolving, with growing interest in financial investment avenues alongside traditional physical buying.
Rising interest in flexible, transparent avenues
“We are seeing a gradual change in how investors participate in gold, while physical buying remains important during occasions like Akshaya Tritiya, there is a clear rise in interest towards more flexible and transparent investment options,” Manav Modi, Analyst Commodities, Motilal Oswal Financial Services, said.
Volatility and safe-haven demand support prices
The brokerage in a report noted that bullion markets in 2026 have remained volatile amid geopolitical tensions, a slowdown in global growth and shifting monetary policy expectations.
Despite intermittent corrections, gold and silver have gained around 10 and 5 per cent year-to-date, respectively, reflecting continued safe-haven demand.
This trend is expected to strengthen as investors look for both convenience and liquidity, he added.
Domestic demand remains price-sensitive
On the domestic front, elevated prices have kept jewellery demand subdued and price-sensitive, leading to discounted domestic prices, the report said.
It highlighted that investors now have multiple avenues to gain exposure to gold, including physical bullion, exchange-traded funds, digital gold and derivatives, indicating a gradual shift towards more liquid investment options.
Global factors to influence gold outlook
Navneet Damani, Head of Research, Commodities, Motilal Oswal Financial Services, said, “Gold is currently navigating a complex global environment.” While there are phases of pressure due to interest rate expectations and currency strength, the broader outlook remains supported by uncertainty, inflation concerns, and long-term investment demand, Damani added.
The report said factors such as geopolitical risks, slowing global growth and the possibility of monetary policy easing later in the year could support prices, while persistent inflation, a stronger US dollar and weak physical demand may act as near-term headwinds.
Gold remains a trusted asset for Indian households
As Akshaya Tritiya approaches, gold continues to remain a trusted asset for Indian households, bridging tradition and financial security in an increasingly uncertain world, the brokerage added.
