The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) Governor Sanjay Malhotra said that the central bank’s policy rate will remain unchanged at 5.5%. The decision was announced on Friday (February 6, 2026) after the meeting of the RBI monetary policy committee (MPC).
Mr. Malhotra said that the MPC maintained a neutral stance.
Mr. Malhotra said that “domestic inflation and growth outlook remain positive” and added that the “Indian economy remains resilient.”
“Real GDP growth for the next two quarters have been revised upwards,” he said.
He also added that CPI inflation for 2025-26 is projected at 2.1%
